Brittany is an amazing and dedicated caregiver to our very busy daughter, and it is very apparent that they care about each other. When Caroline does something new or we take her picture (outside of the school setting) usually the next thing she says is “can you send this to Ms Brittany?” She knows Brittany cares about her and is interested in her life, and she is always eager to share her adventures with Brittany. It is obvious Brittany cares about Caroline as well because she regularly asks about her and checks in on her and remembers certain activities and preferences. Brittany has always gone way above and beyond what any parent could even hope for in a childcare provider. She communicates regularly and lets us know when she sees out-of-character behavior. She recently spent her free time helping us with and then attending Caroline’s birthday. It was so much fun to see the kids interact with Brittany, and their love (and respect) for each other are very apparent. Brittany has found a good balance of love/affection/nurture and the firmness of being a good educator with the consistency and boundaries young children need. It is very obvious she spends so much time and effort into making her classroom and her kiddos successful. She is thoughtful in her planning, and the children feel safe, and excited to learn and play.

I am a parent of two children who have completed the program at Canterbury Academy. Miss Brittany is a loving teacher who is very knowledgeable in multiple areas of early childhood education. She taught two year olds and is now teaching pre-kindergarten.I have been genuinely impressed with her ability to adapt to the different age groups, and meet them where they are nurturing and education wise.My daughter is a nervous child. She always has been and probably always will be at some level. Miss Brittany was one of the teachers who always met her where she was, never made her feel silly for crying when left in the mornings and was there for her throughout the day if she ever missed her mom or dad. She helped her to feel comfortable and loved when I had to walk away at drop off. I knew she was in good hands because Miss Brittany took the time to nurture her the way a person does when they truly care about their job. She made a huge difference in our experience at Canterbury. We truly appreciated the time and effort she put into our daughter, making sure her needs were met. My son is young for his age group but socially very confident and determined. I worked with Miss Brittany all year on making sure my son was learning enough to be ready for Kindergarten the following year. She worked with him, she sent home work for him to do in his free time and she explained things so he could understand the concepts. She helped him catch up to his classmates by taking the time to meet him where he was and help him through an area he was struggling in for awhile. I was so impressed with the dedication she had to making sure he learned.I gave one example of Miss Brittany's impressive skills in nurturing children and one on the educational side on purpose. I believe a solid early childhood teacher needs to be strong on both sides and this lady has a God given gift. I could give many more examples but the bottom line is this lady has a passion for working with children and a true gift for it as well. When I am asked where my children went for daycare I am proud to say Canterbury Academy In Shawnee and Miss Brittany is definitely one of the reasons I can confidently say that to people inquiring about daycares around the area.

To whom it may concern,This letter is in regards to the character and person of Brittany Elder. Brittany came into our lives when our youngest daughter entered into her preschool class of 2.5 yo. After a few quick transitions of teachers Brittany was our constant. Her bright shining demeanor welcomed us every morning. It never changed. If there were things going on in her personal or work life we never knew it. She was amazing with our child and everyone else in the class. We were so blessed to follow her for two years. Even our other daughter was a part of Brittany's kindness. She has always been above and beyond for her kids. Brittany has been a teacher for the majority of our 5+ years at Canterbury. Both my 6-year-old and 4-year-old have spent time in her classroom. My son will start Pre-K with her this year. My daughter still loves to talk with Miss Brittany when we drop of my son. Brittany always has a smile and time for a quick chat with her. For a while, my son was obsessed with feeding the fish. Brittany waited for us to arrive each morning so he could help her feed the fish.She shows a genuine interest in the children, their well-being, and their education. She's always positive, always encouraging. The continued relationships with families beyond their time at Canterbury is a testament to the valuable connection she makes with children and her desire to see them succeed beyond her classroom. Brittany is always willing to create solutions to concerns of parents and children, especially ways to ease transition in the mornings and create a comforting environment for learning. The daily activities she plans for the kids incorporate different interests and options showing her understanding of their individuality. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Brittany was instrumental in providing ideas for at-home activities, connecting families to share their ideas, and staying connected in general while we couldn't be together.Brittany values her coworkers and strives to lift them up as well. She recently redecorated/created a relaxing space for teachers to enjoy while on break throughout the day. The effort itself expressed Brittany's appreciation of her coworkers and is a constant reminder of the positivity and light that Brittany shares daily. She also reached out for assistance in providing an outdoor space for teacher breaks as well. Brittany's actions to improve and maintain a healthy work environment not only affect her coworkers, but the children as well. Happy, appreciated employees are better employees. One of the focuses of the Canterbury curriculum is kindness. Brittany is teaching this by example.

We feel lucky to have Mrs. Brittany as a caregiver for our children. She genuinely cares about her students as if they were her own. She provides a safe, comfortable environment for her students to learn and have fun. She makes it a point to make sure each and every child feels special in their own way. She goes out of her way to schedule fun activities for her class and their families to get together outside of school hours (zoo, parent's night out, etc.). Our kids adore Ms. Brittany and our Pre-K daughter is sad to leave her class as she is heading to Kindergarten. She openly communicates with parents about how things are going with their children, whether it's a potential concern or something positive. Ms. Brittany has been a constant and positive person in our oldest child’s life since she was 18 months old. It’s no coincidence when every parent wants their kid to be in Ms. Brittany’s class and all the kids’ favorite teacher is Ms. Brittany. She is absolutely wonderful with the kids. She is kind but disciplines well. She teaches our children many things beyond just educational knowledge. She teaches them life skills, such as, how to be a kind human, how to be respectful and responsible. To Whom It May Concern: We have had the pleasure of knowing Ms. Brittany for the past 3 years. She has cared for our daughter in the daycare setting most of that time and both our daughter and son in a home setting for several weeks during the COVID quarantine period. Ms. Brittany always has a smile, a positive greeting and a hug for the kids each morning. She has one of the brightest and most positive personalities you will find and she lives intentionally by her main teaching goal for the kids, which is above all be kind. Guiding children’s behavior and development with positive reinforcement has been a constant theme we have seen throughout our years with Ms. Brittany. We also saw time and time again when she was in our home, how she could take the simplest household item and turn it into a creative sensory teaching item for our children. It is easy to identify Ms. Brittany as a favorite for all the children at the daycare, while at the same time she commands an appropriate level of respect from the children. We feel this speaks volumes about the way she builds relationships with the children in her care. Many times, we have been impressed by how she handles the challenges of the day by getting down on a child’s level, talking about the day’s challenges and finding an encouraging word and a better way to do things tomorrow.
